Aviation Scholarships - Scott Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 were approved by the Trustees and Officers at the Annual Meeting in April 2002 held at Santa Paula, CA. The scholarship committee once again directed those moneys to the EAA Air Academy programs. As in the past, individual scholarships were selected and divided among four programs tailored to age bracket, ages 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18 and older youths. The Air Academy introduces them to various facets of aviation, from basics of aircraft construction and theory of flight to an airplane ride in which each has the opportunity to handle the controls in flight. The program is designed to be a “hands-on” experience. Instruction is provided by professionals of the EAA staff as well as volunteers versed in the various disciplines.
The value of the EAA Air Academy to the youths participating in the programs is dramatically reflected in the enthusiasm of the many letters directed to the President of the Staggerwing Museum Foundation. Whether the EAA Air Academy has set the foundation for a future in aviation for the individual or has otherwise proved a very worthwhile and positive experience, our mutual objectives will have been accomplished.
